Branded Baby

Design Concept

In this project, I will be focusing on the relationship between consumerism and its impact, on both human and nature’s perspective. Consumerism influences people to overconsume when shopping, buying items they already own or temporarily do not need. Items, especially those unused or used only once, are then discarded. These discarded items include plastic packaging or other non-recyclable materials, exacerbating environmental pollution. On the other hand, consumerism can adversely affect the mindset and living environment of the next generation. In this project, I intend to create an art installation that represents the deformed offspring of a materialistic society.

Outcome

When we advocate consumerism, our consumption habits inevitably have a certain degree of influence on the next generation. Therefore, this plastic baby represents a baby with an unhealthy and consumerist mindset. Additionally, this plastic baby symbolizes the deformed products of a materialistic society, including vanity, the desire for social comparison, and negative societal trends. Just imagine, a plastic baby grows in the mother's body. This plastic baby will also affect the mother's health. I want to use this to imply that environmental pollution ultimately affects people’s lives.

Photography

I put my ‘branded baby’in the bins, some waste clothes and plants. I think about the combination between my sculptures and enviromental pollution. This practice make people think about the new meanings of different photographs based on the original concepts of this sculpture.
